The Senate Must Pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act
WASHINGTON — Following passage of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act in the U.S. House of Representatives, AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement:
“Public service workers have answered the call, springing into action at a moment’s notice to protect our communities from the coronavirus. The House package represents the kind of leadership we need to support our dedicated professionals doing the work on the ground. It provides funding and additional resources to help them do their jobs. Now the Senate must act quickly to pass this vital legislation.
“But make no mistake. This legislation is just the beginning of what should be a sustained effort to support our communities. We will continue to call on Congress to invest in health preparedness and worker safety to ensure public service workers have what they need to respond to this pandemic. The health and security of our families and communities depend on it.”
