Saunders calls on Senate to confirm David Weil for key Department of Labor post

WASHINGTON — AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after the confirmation hearing for David Weil to be the administrator of the Wage and Hour Division for the U.S. Department of Labor:

“Today’s hearing reaffirmed that nobody is better prepared than David Weil to lead the federal agency charged with enforcing many of our most important labor laws and ensuring that working people receive the compensation they deserve.

“In his testimony, Weil pledged to redouble his commitment to the responsible, effective, transparent administration of the agency, contributing to President Joe Biden’s efforts to build back better. Workers need an advocate like David Weil in their corner and on the job at Wage and Hour. I urge the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to act quickly and move his nomination to the full U.S. Senate.”
