Saunders: ‘Every year we wait, pharmaceutical corporations continue to jack up prices’
WASHINGTON — The Department of Health and Human Services unveiled a sweeping plan today to lower prescription drug costs. In response, AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement:
“I commend President Biden and Secretary Becerra for this comprehensive plan to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and lower costs for everybody, including those who get health care through their employer or the Affordable Care Act. We are in the middle of a crisis, and this solution is long overdue. Working people and seniors are having to split pills in half, skip meals or forgo rent payments to afford life-saving medication. Every year we wait, pharmaceutical corporations continue to jack up prices, despite already enjoying record profits. Congress must finally act through reconciliation to rein in this greed and make prescription drugs affordable for everyone.”
