AFSCME’s Saunders: This House Democratic Party leadership ‘will be a force for working people across the country’
WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after leadership elections were held for the 118th Congress:
“Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, Pete Aguilar and Jim Clyburn are four proven labor champions in Congress. Together in leadership, they will be a force for working people across the country. Rep. Jeffries, who makes history as the first-ever African American party leader in Congress, was raised in a proud AFSCME household. His record reflects the pro-union values he grew up with. Rep. Clark, Rep. Aguilar and Rep. Clyburn round out a leadership team that mirrors the diversity of the labor movement and the nation.
“From advocating for state and local aid in the American Rescue Plan to cutting the cost of prescription drugs in the Inflation Reduction Act, this team has experience going to bat and winning for working people. Like AFSCME members, they are true fighters for economic justice. We look forward to working with them to strengthen our economy and level the playing field for workers.”
