Saunders: The Senate must confirm Julie Su to continue progress for working people
AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) voted to advance Julie Su’s confirmation as U.S. secretary of labor:
“Julie Su is the best candidate for secretary of labor. Everywhere she goes, workers win. As a civil rights attorney for more than 17 years, she’s proven that she isn’t afraid to take on hard fights or stand up to corporations who exploit their employees. She’s a consensus builder who won the support of the California Chamber of Commerce and other business groups as the state’s labor commissioner. And at the Department of Labor, she worked hand in hand with Marty Walsh to empower workers, enforce worker protections and encourage new organizing.
“Her tenacity, her experience and her ability to engage all stakeholders means she has what it takes to expand on the progress made for working people under the Biden administration. We applaud the Senate HELP committee for advancing Julie Su’s nomination, and we urge senators to confirm her without delay.”
