AFSCME’s ‘I AM Story’ podcast nominated for NAACP Image Award

 

LOS ANGELES — This week, AFSCME’s “I AM Story” podcast received a nomination for a NAACP Image Award in the “Outstanding Podcast – Limited Series/Short Form” category. Hosted by AFSCME President Lee Saunders, the “I AM Story” recounts the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strike through the voices of strikers who lived the struggle. The series culminates with the historic involvement of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated in Memphis while supporting the strikers.

 

“We are proud to tell the story of the fearless strikers in Memphis who marched with Dr. King, and we are honored to count them as members of our union family,” said AFSCME President Lee Saunders. “We can never forget the sacrifices they made to ensure that everyone receives dignity and respect on the job. At a moment when issues of racial and economic justice are again front and center, recognizing the Memphis strikers will inspire the next generation to continue speaking out against inequality wherever they see it.”

 

The NAACP will recognize winners in non-televised Image Awards categories, including podcasts, March 11-14, which can be streamed via naacpimageawards.net.
