AFSCME’s Saunders: Biden protected working families against extremists

AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan budget agreement, averting federal default:

“President Biden has delivered for working people time and time again. He has created more jobs than any other U.S. president, fostered wage growth, lowered prescription drug costs for seniors and signed legislation to fix our nation’s crumbling roads and bridges. Hardliners in Congress did everything they could to undo this historic progress, going as far as threatening a first-ever government default that would have led to a punishing recession. These anti-worker politicians always put the interests of the super-wealthy over working families.

“Neither side got everything it wanted in this agreement, but it shows once again that President Biden puts working people first, while extremists on the other side are willing to gamble away our futures.”
