Protect Medicaid Day of Action: AFSCME Affiliate Toolkit

On Wednesday, March 19, we're driving as many calls as possible to Congress to tell them to protect Medicaid, NOT tax cuts for billionaires.

Anti-union extremists and their billionaire backers are advancing devastating cuts to Medicaid straight out of Project 2025. These reckless cuts will harm working families and retirees, damage our communities, and threaten our jobs and strong contracts. That's why AFSCME members are making our voices heard.

There is also a bill on the table right now to STOP Congress from cutting D.C.’s budget by $1 billion. This is money that comes directly from D.C. taxpayers and funds the essential services that AFSCME District Council 20 members provide.

Demand that Congress protect public services by saying NO to cuts to Medicaid and D.C.’s budget.

Sample email invitation for member outreach:

Dear AFSCME family:

Anti-worker extremists and billionaires are planning to slash Medicaid to give the wealthy massive tax breaks, and we need to fight back.

Please join AFSCME President Lee Saunders and a special guest for a tele-town hall on Wednesday, March 19, to learn how AFSCME is fighting back against reckless cuts to Medicaid. [Hyperlink this text with your timezone's link]

Cuts to Medicaid will affect all of us and damage our communities.

Medicaid is the largest source of federal funding for state budgets. If Medicaid dollars dry up, states will have no choice but to slash budgets, services and jobs. There will be fewer resources for hospitals, clinics, schools, nursing homes, veterans’ homes and other health care providers. They may even have to shut down.

Why are anti-worker lawmakers doing this? To pay for tax breaks for billionaires. It’s that simple.

We will also be demanding that members of Congress STOP drastic cuts D.C.’s budget. This is money that comes directly from D.C. taxpayers and funds the essential services that AFSCME District Council 20 members provide.

That’s why AFSCME is organizing a Medicaid Day of Action, to let members of Congress know that we won’t stand for cuts to Medicaid.

In Solidarity,
