Resolution No. 62

San Diego, CA

WHEREAS:

There is an ever growing need to strengthen local unions by increasing participation among members in all the activities of the union; and

WHEREAS:

Involving members in the solution of their own problems in the workplace, increases their sense of ownership and reaffirms the fact that they are the union; and

WHEREAS:

Local unions win become more effective vehicles for representation and advocacy when more people are involved and available to help.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

AFSCME commits itself to conduct an extensive educational campaign to promote the advantages of the organizing model among its affiliates; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the Education Department develop appropriate training materials to help AFSCME leadership and staff both to understand and to implement the organizing model in local unions.
