WHEREAS:
AFSCME has been the forefront of the union movement in the implementation of regulations for the improvement of America’s working class livelihood by wisely utilizing its resources to support the improvement of the causes affecting minorities, underprivileged children, the elderly, and the disabled population; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME has provided direction and strong leadership anywhere the nation has ever needed it, no matter how difficult the situation or the circumstances. AFSCME has always been where most needed; and
WHEREAS:
Nationwide, it has become a luxury to send our children to college. A free education, as we used to know it, no longer exists. America is experiencing a difficult and sad reality educating the children of the working class, our children. They also deserve the right to a college education, regardless of its cost; and
WHEREAS:
It is becoming a painful and almost impossible dream for our children and our own members to gain access to that tool, which is indispensable to forge ahead in society.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME will strongly consider, support and recommend legislation in the implementation of efforts to allocate funds to further the education of low income Americans seeking a higher education; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME will utilize the strong arm of its Education Department in lobbying to ensure that such endeavor is accomplished.
