WHEREAS:
All AFSCME members are hardworking and dedicated to the communities they serve. Our sisters and brothers in public safety stare down violence and danger all day, every day and do it with dignity and respect year in and year out; and
WHEREAS:
These tough, demanding and dangerous jobs sometimes call for the ultimate sacrifice by our members. These sisters and brothers leave behind families, communities and co-workers whom they support.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
When a member of a public safety local falls in the line of duty, the local affiliate may contact the International Union and provide it with the contact information of the fallen member within one month of the member’s passing. The International Union will provide each public safety local with the name and contact information of the fallen member’s family, no later than thirty days within the receipt of the information from the fallen member’s local union. Each public safety local union may donate a minimum of $150 to the family of the fallen member to aid in the care of the fallen member’s family.
