Standing with the Cuban People and Against Oppression

Resolution No. 41

WHEREAS:

July 11 marked the one-year anniversary in the fight for a free Cuba and for the San Isidro movement that occurred on July 11, 2021. On July 11, 2022, President Joe Biden sanctioned 23 Cuban officials; and

WHEREAS:

The Cuban people are denied fundamental rights and freedoms; and

WHEREAS:
Our union, AFSCME, advocates for these very same rights, fairness in the workplace, excellence in public service and the freedom and opportunity for all working families and a better quality of life.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

AFSCME stands strong with our federal, state and local leaders in solidarity with the Cuban people in their fight for freedom and basic human rights, and against a lack of food and medicine, imprisonment of innocent people for expressing their political opinion and a complete lack of freedom; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

These fundamental rights we fight for daily: we want to let America know we stand with the Cuban people in holding free elections, free speech, free press and the ability to form labor unions and political parties, and for a free democratic election. #SOSCUBA Patria Y Vida!
