AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement to honor AFSCME members who work in corrections as we observe National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, which begins today:
“Corrections officers and employees face incredibly challenging working conditions every single day. Throughout the pandemic, they have continued to serve through repeated COVID outbreaks, long hours away from home and chronic short staffing that makes their jobs even more dangerous. But they do it to keep our communities and our families safe.
“This week, we recognize corrections officers and employees for their service and sacrifice, and AFSCME commits to never stop fighting to make sure these essential workers have a voice on the job to advocate for what they need.”
