To Fund The Front Lines, We Need to Win in Georgia
As states and cities face budget shortfalls because of the pandemic, public service workers are being thanked for the sacrifices they’ve made with pink slips. They need and deserve help in the form of robust funding for states, cities, towns and schools. But that aid has been hung up in the Senate since May by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has said he’d be happy to let states “go bankrupt” rather than support front-line heroes.
But the balance of power in the Senate may be shifting. Victories for John Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock in Georgia’s two January runoff elections would create a pro-worker majority that will pass the urgent state and local aid we all need.
This is an all hands on deck situation.
