Saunders: Gupta will bring experience, passion for justice to role as Associate Attorney General

WASHINGTON — AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement regarding the Senate’s vote to confirm Vanita Gupta as Associate Attorney General:

“Vanita Gupta has dedicated her life and career to the fight for basic fairness. She has a proven record of fighting for equality and equity on all the issues that will confront the Department of Justice in the coming years – from workers’ rights and immigrant rights to consumer protection and affordable housing.

“Having led the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and served as president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, she has exactly the background needed to successfully combat discrimination and safeguard the constitutional rights of everyone.  

“Gupta is a leader with integrity and a consensus-builder who will operate with transparency and accountability in enforcing the law. She will be a knowledgeable, experienced, effective Associate Attorney General, and AFSCME looks forward to working with her.”
