AFSCME’s Saunders: ‘Marty Walsh has made working people proud’

AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement on Secretary Marty Walsh departing the Department of Labor:

“Marty Walsh has made working people proud. As the first card-carrying union member to lead the Department of Labor in nearly five decades, his door was always open to us, and he ensured that we had a seat at the table when important policy decisions were made. He stood on the picket line with striking workers, fought for key legislation like the American Rescue Plan and bipartisan infrastructure law and helped make it the official policy of the federal government to encourage collective bargaining.

“It was a privilege to collaborate with him over the past two years to improve the lives of working families, and we look forward to continuing to partner with Marty in his new role in the labor movement.”
