AFSCME’s Saunders: The Protect America’s Workforce Act will strengthen federal workers’ freedoms on the job so they can continue to keep our nation safe, healthy and strong.

WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Protect America’s Workforce Act, which would reverse President Trump’s executive order stripping union freedoms from one million federal workers:

“We applaud the House of Representatives for passing the Protect America’s Workforce Act – a bill that strengthens federal workers’ freedoms on the job so they can continue to keep our nation safe, healthy and strong. This bill not only provides workers’ critical protections from an administration that has spent the past year relentlessly attacking them, but it also ensures that our communities are served by the most qualified public service workers – not just those with the best political connections. On behalf of the thousands of AFSCME members working across our federal government, we thank the lawmakers who stood with over one million federal workers today in voting to restore their collective bargaining freedoms.”

AFSCME’s 1.4 million members provide the vital services that make America happen. With members in communities across the nation, serving in hundreds of different occupations — from nurses to corrections officers, child care providers to sanitation workers — AFSCME advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and freedom and opportunity for all working families.
