The administration threw a tantrum after a federal judge ordered Elon Musk and his minions to keep their hands off our personal and sensitive Social Security data.
Acting Commissioner Leland Dudek threatened to pretty much shut down the Social Security Administration if Musk and his crew in the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) can’t access the private records of millions of people.
Seriously.
AFSCME President Lee Saunders lit into the administration on Friday.
“For almost 90 years, Social Security has never missed a paycheck — but 60 days into this administration, Social Security is now on the brink,” Saunders said.
Dudek “has proven again that he is in way over his head,” Saunders added. Then he accused Dudek of “compromising the privacy of millions of Americans, shutting down services that senior citizens rely on and planning debilitating layoffs, all in service to Elon Musk’s lies.”
“Now, like a child who didn’t get his way, he is threatening to shut down Social Security,” Saunders said. “Rather than comply with a lawful court order, he wants to see millions of families, retirees and disabled individuals go hungry, suffer and potentially lose their homes, all to curry favor with anti-worker billionaires. It’s despicable.”
Millions of retirees who depend on Social Security to survive deserve better than this. Working people who expect Social Security to be available when they retire deserve better than this. America deserves better than this.
