Growing up in Puerto Rico, all of Adalberto Díaz’s friends knew that he had a dream to become a forensic investigator.

Today, he has achieved that dream, serving his community at the Institute of Forensic Sciences of Puerto Rico, in the capital, San Juan.   

“I like providing this service to my island,” he says. “I’d like every Puerto Rican to stay here on the island with the mindset that we can make it here – that here we can have the future we want.”

As part of his job, Díaz responds to violent crime scenes and suspicious deaths to collect and document the evidence. His work ethic and attention to detail have attracted praise from co-workers.

“He’s a disciplined, organized young man, interested in the work he does, and he does it with excellence. He has that sense of responsibility,” says Carmen Ortiz, a senior firearms examiner. “Without a doubt, I see him as the future of the institution.”

For his service to his community, Díaz, a member of Servidores Públicos Unidos de Puerto Rico (SPUPR/Council 95) is a winner of our union’s Never Quit Service Award. The award recognizes public service workers who go above and beyond the call of duty to make their communities better.

“Every time I go to a crime scene, I carry that responsibility,” says Díaz. “I have to do the job correctly so justice can be done for the victim and their family.”
